Preserving Olfactory History

Founded in 2013, we are dedicated to archiving the history, batch codes, and evolution of the world's most masterful fragrances.

Our Mission

Perfume is an ephemeral art. Formulas change, bottles are redesigned, and masterpieces are discontinued. Vintage Perfumes (formerly known as Raiders of the Lost Scent) was established to serve as a comprehensive reference library for collectors, historians, and enthusiasts.

We specialize in:

  • Batch Code Analysis: Deciphering the often cryptic manufacturing codes of major houses like Guerlain, Dior, and YSL to determine the age of a bottle.
  • Reformulation History: Tracking the scent profile changes over decades due to IFRA regulations and supplier shifts.
  • Bottle Identification: Visual guides to distinguish between first editions and later re-releases.

Why "Vintage"?

Vintage perfumery offers a window into the past—using ingredients like oakmoss, natural musk, and sandalwood that are often restricted or unavailable in modern compositions. Understanding these older works allows us to appreciate the true artistic intent of the original creators.

A Note on Accuracy

Our guides are compiled from decades of research, community contributions, and direct analysis of vintage bottles. However, fragrance history is often undocumented. We strive for accuracy but welcome corrections from the community.
